team (n)    a group of people organised to work together

By definition, a team consists of two or more people.  Put two or more people together and you have the potential for issues.

Why is it so hard for people to work well together?
When it comes down to it, we all have our own jobs to do, so it's natural that our first priority is to get our own stuff done, reach our own goals and receive our just rewards.  Trouble is, within a team, you've got a group of individuals all trying to do the same, so if we start to get in each others' way, the 'team' can quickly get in a mess.

Quick to judge, slow to repair
When we hit a roadblock with a colleague and we're trying to work them out, the really hard part is that all we have to go on is what we see on the outside, their behaviour.  We make a judgment based on what we see or hear, problem is, our judgements can be pretty unflattering and are often based on some unpoken expectation we've placed on the other person: "Well, she's my manager, so she should ... " or "if he was really committed, he wouldn't ... ".  In no time at all, we've written our colleague off and the chances of getting the relationship back on track are slim to non-existent.

Enter Instinctive Drives
What if you had a way to understand where your colleague was coming from, to work them out so you knew how to approach them and get a better result?  What if understanding why they were doing what they were doing removed the frustration and opened the door to a much more productive relationship?

At Link-up, the I.D.™ profile is where we start with every client and when you know the I.D. of your colleagues, it suddenly makes sense to you why they do what they do, because you understand what drives and motivates them.  When you understand the 'why', you stop judging the 'what' and you can finally find a way to work together.

I.D. is at the start and heart of everything Link-up does and it guarantees outstanding results for you and your team.

So what does it take to untangle a team?

Let Link-up and I.D. untangle your team

 Understand all the players:

There is no faster, more effective way of understanding the members of your team than through the Instinctive Drives profile.

A Link-up Consultant will step you and your team members through the profiling process, with each person getting powerful insights into themselves and the other members of the team, insights such as:

  • What really drives and motivates each person?
  • What are their strengths and natural talents?
  • What are their blindspots and what practical strategies are needed to manage them?

Now you have a team of people that not only understand each other on a much deeper level, but are starting to learn how best to communicate, approach each other and therefore work together.

Understand the style of the leader

A key component in untangling any team is understanding how the leader operates and how that impacts on the team.  By doing their I.D., the leader gains a much stronger awareness of their natural leadership style and how that might be affecting the team, both positively and negatively.

At Link-up Consulting we are engaged by leaders so they are always our primary focus.  In our experience, the insights our consultants can provide to leaders, through I.D. and our considerable skill and experience in applying it, are both powerful and lasting.

As a leader, do you know:

  • what your natural style is and how you can consistently operate at your best?
  • how to ensure that you lead in the way you want to, with fewer escalations and more time to be strategic?
  • how you are affecting the people in your team and how they really see you?
  • exactly what your team needs from you to be able to 'step up'?

Our consultants can help you find the answers to every one of the questions, and many more besides.

The value we provide for leaders is something we at
Link-up are particularly proud of.

Get the issues out on the table

Now that the team has a better framework for understanding each other, communicating and working together, it's time to get all the issues out on the table and resolved, once and for all.

Link-up Consultants work carefully with the leader to create the right environment for addressing any issues that are stopping the team from moving forward.  Many of these issues can be raised and dealt with by talking about the differences between I.D.s, rather than by pointing fingers at individuals.  Whether it's in a team workshop, off-site or 1:1 with an individual, issues are always handled in a totally safe and non-threatening way.

When the team sees that issues can be dealt with and resolved, and that the leader is prepared to tackle them head on, even the most jaded team members can turn the corner and get right back on board.

If you're spending all your time managing issues like negativity, open conflict, poor performance from some and therefore resentment from others, a team challenged by a lack of resources and unrealistic expectations, or any of the myriad of issues that stop a team from getting on with the job ...

It's time to give Link-up a call!
